About Department Of Accounting

The Department of Accounting was established in 2016/2017 session as one of the foundation departments in the Faculty of Management Sciences of the University. The Academic Programme is designed/structured in line with the Nigerian University Commission (NUC) Benchmark Minimum Academic Standards (BMAS) specifications. It started admitting students in the 2016/2017 Academic Session. One hundred and thirty-three (133) students were admitted through the UTME and Post-UTME conducted by the University. The Department presently has thirteen (13) academic staff and four (4) administrative staff. The academic staff comprises of three (3) Professors, four (4) Senior Lecturers and six (6) other lecturers two of whom already have their PhDs while others are at different stages of completion of the doctoral programmes. The Department’s courses are coded ACC.

The Accounting Programme of the Department of Accounting of Federal University is an Institute of Chartered Accountant of Nigeria (ICAN) accredited department for the Institutes’ ATS programme. A unique department that has a programme that takes care of current happenings and events in the field of accounting profession globally.

Our accounting laboratory stocked with accounting tools used in real business environment including computers and modern accounting and other statistical software provides students with real world technical skills of accounting.

Our students are prepared to write both academic and professional examinations. Students are trained to have better knowledge and understanding of Contemporary Issues in Accounting including Financial Accounting, Forensic Accounting, Auditing,  International Accounting, Financial Entrepreneurship and Corporate Governance, Accounting Ethics and Value, Oil and Gas Accounting etc. Students interested in taking the ATS examinations while undergoing their undergraduate programmes.

Finally, the department offers to students, accountancy training that enables them think and act strategically and professionally for careers with accounting firms, commercial and industrial businesses, government agencies, non-profit making institutions and other organisations both locally and internationally
